North Herts Pickleball provides a great place to make friends, have fun and to get some exercise, whilst playing the fastest growing paddle sport on the planet. Below are some guidelines to facilitate the safe, respectful, courteous and fun community that is North Herts Pickleball.
Advice and Etiquette for Playing Pickleball
1. Always warm up your body before playing so that your cardiovascular and respiratory rate is raised, and to include movement to back, arms, shoulders, hamstrings, knees, calves, and ankles. If in doubt, consult with a certified physiotherapist or doctor who can factor in any medical problems you may have.
2. Keep well hydrated, drink plenty of fluids before, during and after playing.
3. Do not run backwards to get to a ball over your head, it is too easy to fall or collide with a wall and injure yourself or others.
4. Carefully run forward to get that low bouncing ball so you don't fall and injure yourself.
5. Always call ‘BALL ON COURT’ loud and clear and raise your hand when your ball strays towards or on to another court and NEVER run onto the adjoining court to retrieve your ball; the players on that court will throw it back to you at an opportune moment.
6. When a ball strays towards or on to your court from another court ALWAYS stop your game, look where it came from and return it to the appropriate player. Do not swipe or kick a ball away without due care and attention.
7. Never walk behind players while they are playing; wait until they are between points and let them know you plan to cross behind their court.
8. Do not instruct, coach or offer criticism unless it is requested by the intended recipient.
9. If others have been setting up equipment or waiting longer than you, offer them time on court before you rush on to court.
10. Smile, it’s only a game!
I never thought I'd say this, as long as I can walk I'm playing pickleball, I can't wait to get back on the court
